The Herschell Carrousel Manufacturing Museum in North Tonawanda, New York, is only 25 minutes from Niagara Falls, New York, and offers the opportunity to experience fun as Americans did 100 years ago.
Explore the carving shop, a woodworking shop, a paint shop, a storage space, an upholstery shop, a machine shop, and a roundhouse where carrousels were built and tested before export. All of the production units of the Allan Herschell Company were previously housed in the complex, which is made up of seven connected buildings. It is listed on the National and New York State Registers of Historic Places, respectively.
In the Childrens Gallery, there is a small, 1940s aluminium carrousel known as the Kiddie Carrousel, as well as a 40 foot diameter historic carrousel with 36 hand carved horses and more than 580 lights. Moreover, take a look at the Kiddieland Testing Park Exhibit, which has four restored childrens attractions as well as a picnic pavilion and entrance building.
An exhibit that demonstrates the creation of carrousel music is the Wurlitzer Music Roll Department. Watch the process of turning wood blocks into horses for the carrousels in the woodcarving shop. The evolution of carrousel animals over a 60 year period is also shown in the Lockman Collection. Check out the gift shop before you leave.
